Quantico controversy: Dubai hotel ends its association with chef Atul Kochhar post his controversial Islamophobic tweet against Priyanka Chopra

The JW Marriott Marquis Hotel has ended its association with popular celebrity chef, Chef Atul Kochhar, post his controversial tweet against Priyanka Chopra-starrer American television show, Quanctico. The recent episode of Quantico showcased Hindu nationalists in a negative light, for which the show received severe criticism from Indians across the world. Despite apologies from Priyanka and makers of the show (ABC) through their respective tweets, angry Indians couldn’t stop being outraged.

Chef Atul Kochhar, who runs Michelin-starred Benares restaurant in London and Rang Mahal restaurant in the JW Marriott Marquis Hotel, Dubai was one of first persons to criticise the show and Priyanka Chopra. He had tweeted, “It is sad to see that you have not respected the sentiments of Hindus who have been terrorised by Islam over 2000 years. Shame on you.” After his controversial tweet, the Twitterati trolled Atul for his wrong facts and Islamophobic tweet. The chef soon realised his mistake and posted an apology, which read, “There is no justification for my tweet, a major error made in the heat of the moment on Sunday. I fully recognise my inaccuracies that Islam was founded around 1,400 years ago and I sincerely apologise. I am not Islamophobic, I deeply regret my comments that have offended many. ” The Chef followed it up with another tweet, where he apologised and said that he regrets hurting his Muslim friends and colleagues. However, seems like the apology came in too late. (Also Read: Here’s what Varun Dhawan has to say about Priyanka Chopra-Quantico controversy)

With the termination of our agreement, chef Atul will no longer be associated with the restaurant.” He further added, “At the JW Marriott Marquis Hotel Dubai we pride ourselves on creating a culture of diversity and inclusion for our guests and associates across the hotel and our restaurants. We also remain committed to delivering the traditional culinary experience and high service standards that Rang Mahal is renowned for.”
